Vivian - 6 Weeks Old

Unbelievable to me that Vivian is 6 weeks old, and I am already half way through my maternity leave, and tomorrow is going to be 2011!!!!

The Highlights of the last 6 weeks include:
1. Finding out she's a GIRL
2. Introducing her to Violet
3. No trips to the ER

The Lowlights were/are:
1. Nonstop breastfeeding
2. Nonstop diaper changing
3. Screaming (her, not us) starting at dinnertime and lasting until bedtime

Milestone: Vivian's Smile

There were a couple questionable "social" smiles before this one, but yesterday was for sure a bona fide smile meant just for me. I know this because she smiled with her whole face.

A thing about milestones

The thing about milestones is there are so many. I try to recognize and document the major ones, like learning to walk and talk, but lately I have noticed that there so many smaller ones that I don't want to forget. Like, I remember the first time Violet headed down the hall (on hands and knees) to play in her room all by herself. Before this she was always in arms reach. And I remember the first time I said "I love you" at bedtime and she said it right back.

On Christmas Day out at the farm I noticed another milestone. as Violet was playing with her older cousins she ran around with the pack of them and I didn't feel compelled to track her every move. She was old enough to take care of herself in a way. It was exciting to think about all the fun she and Vivian will have with the cousins - all of them just "being kids".

Stay tuned for many more milestones to be announced...

Letras Sopa

Olivia makes this soup for Violet, that her grandmother used to make for her. I thought I'd share the recipe since it's so yummy!!

1 can tomato sauce
2 cups chicken broth
1 7oz pkg Letras (Alphabet macaroni)
1 chopped carrot (optional)
Vegetable oil

Stir together the sauce and broth, set aside. Saute the Letras (and carrots) in the oil until golden brown, stirring constantly. Pour the sauce mix into the macaroni and simmer until pasta is to desired tenderness. Put a bowl of this in front of your toddler and watch her devour it!!

I always let her snack on butter

Happy Birthday, Olivia!

I baked cupcakes. Violet decorated them...along with the kitchen floor. They were delicious (the cupcakes, not the floor).

"V's" First Time Holding "v"

Violet was SO proud to be able to hold Vivian. She liked to study her and point out "eyes" and "hand" and "belly".

Christmas Tree Lighting at the Capitol

We never did see the tree. But we toured the Capitol.

Keep it inside the lines, Grandma!

Scenes from Thanksgiving Weekend

Grandpa plying with Violet. Not sure if this was before or after the bubbles and playing with a sponge and bucket of water, but either way Violet had a blast playing with Grandpa.
